Assessment Details
Assessment 1: This assessment is a 10-minute podcast discussing personal experiences of coach education and the impact this has had/will have upon professional practice. The themes discussed within the interview must be associated with personal professional development undertaken whilst at university. It is important that you draw upon relevant literature throughout the podcast. You can use a range of technology to conduct the recording of your podcast, using SMART phones, apps., lap-top’s (with mic.), online web-based software, etc. This assessment is worth 50% of the module grade. This will assess LO’s 1 and 2.
Assessment 2: This assessment is an individual presentation critically analysing your employability skills and professional standards in either PE or sports coaching, focusing upon an action plan to further develop your professional practice and employability for the future (i.e. CPD). The presentation is 15 minutes in duration. This is worth 50% of the overall module grade. This will assess LO 3.
Indicative Content
The module aims to consolidate and systematically review coach education, applying knowledge and understanding from personal experiences of coach education to the development of professional practice and meeting professional standards. The module provides students with the opportunity to experience an aspect of coach education, which serves to develop personal and professional practice. The reflection and analysis will focus upon development of specific skills, qualities and characteristics relevant to your future employment ambitions in sport and physical education. The specific personal and professional development topics within the module will change based upon current professional practice, research and standards.
Learning Strategies
A blended learning approach will be utilised for delivery. Semester 1 will provide two face-to-face lectures, with a coach education activity/intervention scheduled between each of the face-to-face deliveries. Following this, Semester 2 will comprise of a series of face-to-face taught workshops and distance-learning (DL) activities, scheduled on subsequent weeks, utilising Blackboard/Microsoft Teams to deliver the DL content and provide additional support material. Each activity, both face-to-face and DL, will commence with tutor developed introductory material and a range of additional student-lead learning activities.
