Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will develop and enhance students' business acumen and encourage enterprise and entrepreneurship within the field of physical education, sports coaching and sports development. Students will need to work together throughout the module enhancing teamwork, communication and organisation, all essential skills when leading a business.

Students will investigate different types of business models including both profitable and non-profit organisation models. Marketing and financial funding/planning will be an essential aspect of the module. The module will have an employability focus in that many of the skills developed are transferable to, and desired in industry.
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Students will be required to ‘pitch’ via a presentation, a start-up business or community enterprise in small groups. The presentation should last 15 minutes with 5 minutes allocated to assessor Q+A . Students should consider the market size, marketing, financial costings/projections, staffing and potential growth. (LO1, 2 &3). This assessment is worth 100% of the module mark.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The module will consist of a tutor-lead face to face delivery method utilising both lectures and seminars. Theoretical content will be covered within lectures and supported by small workshops/seminars, which will challenge students to investigate, plan and evaluate the key components of business development.

The department will liaise closely with key stakeholders, external partners and visiting fellows to ensure that students are able to discuss, engage, challenge and collaborate with industry experts. Some aspects of the module will be student led and this will take place during seminar activities as well as independent study as directed by teaching staff.

Formative assessment will be used throughout the module by teaching staff to support student develop.
