INDICATIVE CONTENT
Teaching in this module will comprise a core content of contemporary issues, alongside regular discussion of current issues in clinical sport and exercise science in which the principles can be seen in practice. Content will alternate week on week between subject disciplines introducing example contemporary issues. Students will then engage in seminar sessions introducing, discussing and creating arguments around their choice of contemporary issue in preparation for the creation of the assessment VLOG.
Areas covered include, but are not exclusive to: exercise addiction, body composition and body image, exercise adherence, health-related and disease management aspects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour, physical activity and chronic disease, confidence and motivation, lipid profiles – fit/fat principles, rehabilitation and optimal loading etc.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Students will identify a contemporary issue in clinical sport and exercise science and create a professionally produced VLOG to be presented to peers and academic staff. The VLOG will demonstrate clear rationale for the chosen contemporary issue followed by the development of a multidisciplinary argument for a solution involving at least two of the three BASES recognised core sport and exercise sciences. LO’s 1-3.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module incorporates a tutor-lead lecture programme and practical sessions. Students will be required to conduct tutor-directed independent study, as well as student-lead enquiry and reading into research around the topics of the science of exercise prescription covered in the module. Online platforms will be utilised to support the delivery of the module. It will host resources and additional independent learning tasks for students to complete. Formative assessment will be incorporated throughout the module and regular peer feedback will be a feature of the delivery.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate an advanced knowledge, understanding and critical evaluation of the fundamental contemporary issues in clinical sport and exercise science disciplines of Biomechanics, Physiology and Psychology. Enquiry. Knowledge and Understanding. Learning.
2. Demonstrate an advanced ability to synthesise the individual sport and exercise sciences into an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary issues in clinical sport and exercise science. Enquiry. Knowledge and Understanding. Learning.
3. Create a professional presentation displaying critical evaluation and an ability to develop a critical argument around contemporary issues in clinical sport and exercise sciences. Enquiry. Knowledge and Understanding. Learning. Problem solving. Communication.

WEB DESCRIPTOR
This module provides learning opportunities that will enable you to demonstrate the ability to analyse a variety of contemporary issues in clinical sport and exercise sciences (examples include: exercise addiction, body composition and body image, exercise adherence, health-related and disease management aspects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour, physical activity and chronic disease, confidence and motivation, lipid profiles – fit/fat principles, rehabilitation and optimal loading) in relation to global health and wellbeing. Subsequent information combined with prior knowledge from level 4 and level 5 deliveries will allow you to be innovative and develop critical commentaries that provide recommended solutions to the contemporary issues. This module will also allow you to showcase your high order thinking skills in the creation of a professional, academically rigorous and peer observed VLOG.
