Summative
The assessment will be a practical teaching/coaching session where students will utilise the latest research and trends in digital tools and pedagogy to develop innovative practice and deliver a coaching/teaching episode. Students will need to consider their professional growth, development needs and competencies ahead of planning the coaching/teaching episode, and this will be visible in the content delivered.
Formative
Formative assessment will form a key aspect of preparing students for their summative assessment. All students will receive a formative assessment opportunity as part of the module.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module explores cutting-edge developments in coaching practice, with a particular focus on immersive learning, emerging technologies and contemporary pedagogical innovation. Students will investigate state of the art digital tools such as virtual reality, augmented reality, performance analysis platforms, motion tracking software, and AI-assisted coaching applications, evaluating their potential to enhance learning and improve participant experiences. The module will review current research on technology enhanced coaching, drawing on evidence from sport science, learning sciences and coaching pedagogy to support critical evaluation of the accuracy and limitations of data driven methods.
Through seminars, workshops and guided exploratory tasks, students will develop the skills to analyse digital outputs, interpret performance information and integrate insights into purposeful coaching design. Case studies and demonstrations will showcase innovative practice across a range of professional environments, enabling students to examine trends, ethical considerations and practical constraints. Students will also engage in structured reflection on their own professional development, identifying areas for growth, considering entrepreneurial opportunities within an evolving sector and evaluating how lifelong learning shapes effective coaching.
Practical sessions will support students in preparing for the summative assessment by providing opportunities to experiment with tools, trial creative pedagogical approaches and refine their delivery in response to feedback.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
Learning in this module will be highly interactive, combining seminars, workshops and technology supported practical sessions to develop students’ confidence in using innovative tools and pedagogical approaches. Students will engage in hands-on exploration of immersive technologies and digital coaching platforms, working collaboratively to test ideas, interpret performance data and evaluate their potential impact. Research informed discussions and guided reading will support the development of critical academic skills, enabling students to examine contemporary evidence and question the accuracy and limitations of emerging methods. Opportunities for peer feedback, micro practice and reflective tasks will help students refine their professional decision-making and identify areas for personal development. These strategies ensure students learn through experimentation, critical inquiry and reflective engagement, preparing them to design and deliver forward thinking coaching practice.
