Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module will examine how evidence-based physical activity interventions can be put into practice. Selected population based interventions designed to increase levels of physical activity will be reviewed in three areas;
a) Informational approaches e.g. mass media campaigns, ?Point-of-decision? prompts, school-based health education
b) Behavioural and social approaches e.g. individual health behaviour change, family-based social support
c) Environmental and policy approaches e.g. Socio-environmental models of Stokols, Swinburn
Students will be encouraged to examine efficacy and cost-effectiveness of different types of intervention and to reflect upon the resources and barriers in implementing physical activity interventions in populations. Methods of evaluation will be presented using case study examples.
An optional 1-day workshop will be run at the end of the module.

Students will be required to complete 1 piece of summative assessment.

A written outline of how you would design, implement and evaluate a physical activity intervention for either
c) a community-wide, or
d) a specific setting-based
approach.
This should pay particular attention to resource issues, longer term sustainability and the threats to validity of your measures of effectiveness. Max word limit 3,000 assessing LO 1-2.

Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback.
Module Learning Strategies
9 weekly learning activities with tasks that will deliver the learning outcomes of the module. These tasks will be carried out individually or as part of a small group. The assessment of the module will allow you to develop the skills introduced to you via content and task related activity in a specific and chosen area related to physical activity intervention.
