Module Indicative Content
This module focuses on government and organisational policies on sport. The content of the module is divided in three parts. In the first part (CONTEXT) the role of government and key organisations in sport policy are reviewed and evaluated. This includes an overview of how party politics impacts upon sports policy. The second part of the module focuses on (CASE STUDIES) of governments? involvement in sport policy. The case studies include a) an international comparison of elite sports policy b) an evaluation of a local authority?s sport and leisure policy and c) an examination of government intervention in disability sport policy. These case studies provide illustrations of government and organisational policies and intervention in sport together with examples of how policy analysis tolls can be used to aid the understanding of the sport policy process and outcomes. The third part of the module focuses on the (POLICY ANALYSIS TOOLS) which provide a summary of models used to explain policy making at both macro and meso levels of policy. It is these models that students will refer to in their analysis of a chosen area of sport policy.
