Module Indicative Content
This module considers the social processes involved in sport and exercise settings. First, there is an introduction to broad areas in sport and exercise settings where social psychology is of relevance. Second, social psychological theory is applied to selected areas in sport and exercise settings (e.g., group cohesion, audience effects, sports fans, motivation). The efficacy of psychological techniques applied to improve selected aspects of the group dynamics (e.g., cohesion, communication, climate) in a sport or exercise group will also be considered.
Module Learning Strategies
Students will follow a nine week guided study programme and access support material via Blackboard. Students will be required to access additional support material independently. Understanding of key concepts will be self-assessed via questions posed on Blackboard and tutors feedback will be provided. Students should engage in on-line discussion sessions and will be required to support discussions with evidence based arguments.
