Students will be required to complete 1 piece of summative assessment.

Development of `Community Tool? resources (weighting 100%) on aspects of working with a defined community group of their choice. LOs 1-4

Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback.
Module Indicative Content
Issues around partnerships and coalition with communities and the assessment of community health needs and lay perspectives on disease and the determinants of health will be explored. Various models of community participation will be presented involving participatory approaches to prioritising health care. The principles of social marketing will be presented in relation to the facilitation of healthful behaviours and advocacy for health through communities. Community analysis will be discussed and case studies will be used to illustrate aspects of the design, implementation and sustainability of various community interventions. Current UK policy directives and strategies will be presented with particular emphasis on the impact of these on community development for public health practice.
Module Learning Strategies
This module will be predominantly distributed via the `Blackboard? virtual learning environment.
A one-day workshop (based at the University) will be offered to accompany this module which will include; guest speakers will be invited to talk about aspects of working with various community groups, discussion groups and case studies will be used to illustrate some of the topics covered in the module. Students will work through course material delivered through VLE which will guide reading of key texts and papers as well as specifying tasks for completion for formative assessment.
