INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module aims to provide students with observational, practical and applied experiences, relevant to the discipline of study. It will enable students to experience and reflect upon the practical application of some of the concepts, theories and methods related to the subject or discipline. It offers the opportunity to focus on the application and further extension of knowledge, qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in a chosen area, whilst providing insights to support students personal, professional and career development.
As part of the module, students will have the opportunity to undertake a SWOT analysis and a skills audit, whilst delving into topics based around personal development, professional skills and competencies, professional standards frameworks and reflective practice (theory and applied).
ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1: A reflective logbook completed whilst undertaking experiential learning, which collates key information about experiences and activities undertaken by the student, roles and responsibilities, application of knowledge and skills, whilst critically assessing the qualities and skills required for that environment. Weighted at 75% of the overall module mark assessing LOs 1 and 2.
Assessment 2: An individual presentation based on the personal and professional development journey that the student has undertaken during the module. This will provide students with the opportunity to critically analyse their development from the experiential learning, whilst formulating and developing a personal development plan (PDP) based on their future aspirations. This will be worth 25% of the overall mark. To assess LO 1 & 3 [FINAL].
Formative Assessments: Each student will be provided the opportunity to submit a plan of their summative assessments to the Module Leader and the research supervisor will provide formative feedback during student-arranged meetings.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
This module incorporates a short tutor-lead online lecture programme and workshop sessions to prepare students for their applied experience. Thereafter, sessions will be student-lead and largely take the form of tutorials with the Module Leader (module specific information and learning) and their supervisors (discipline specific learning); which are arranged by the student as and when required. Students will have a minimum of 3 hours meetings from the Module Leader/Supervisor to support with this module.
Students will be required to conduct tutor-directed independent study throughout the module, as well as student-lead enquiry and reading into research surrounding the topics covered in the module. Students will have to undertake experiential learning to further develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of research/disciplinary area. Student-lead independent study will be required specifically for assessment preparation.
