ASSESSMENT DETAILS
An assignment of no more than 1000 words which tests skills to collect and analyse (for validity and reliability) informal and academic sources of knowledge. Covers LO 1 and 2, weighted at 100%
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module aims to provide students with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to engage in HE study.
Students will be introduced to topics such as:
- a personal SWOT analysis
- Personal Development Planning
- SMART objectives
- team working
- report and assignment writing
- effective communication skills
- critical thinking
- academic writing
- academic referencing

Students will engage in a variety of learning forums including:
Tutor-led formal presentations and group-based tutorials. There will also be a technology supported guided learning programme via the VLE.

Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 150 hours of activities towards achieving the learning outcomes. These will be split between 39 hours of direct contact with a tutor and 111 hours of directed, guided and self-study, together with preparation for and completion of the assessment tasks. Learning support material will be provided for the module.
The module will draw upon a mixture of activities including lectures, web-based activities, case study analysis, relevant videos and in-class discussions, individual and group problem solving and self-directed learning.
