An environmental report, 2500 words (LO1, LO2, LO3), Weighting 50%
Business Plan, 2500 words (LO4 LO5 LO6), Weighting 50%
All learning outcomes are covered by two assessment methods. Students must attempt all assessments and achieve an overall pass grade for the module.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
LO1 The organisation and its response to the influence of its economic, social, technological and political environment. Major theoretical approaches to management eg Taylorism and scientific management, human relations school, contingency theories TQM , learning organisations, and their emerging appreciation of the significance of the environment.
LO2 Models to explore the external and internal environments of the organisation eg Greiner's Stage Model, Denison Culture Model PESTLE and SWOTetc.
LO3 Legal and regulatory framework, contact and consumer law, employment law, health and safety, Law of Tort, Companies Act 2006, industry specific regulatory framework
LO4 Organisational structure and business functions: operations, finance and human resources, cross functional project teams. The significance of environments in shaping organisational forms.
LO5 People and organisations - line management and the role of support functions including human resource management - recruitment and selection - groups and team work - theories of motivation - organisational culture
LO6 Business planning as a methodology for assessing the prospects and possibilities for organisations within specific environments
