MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
The widespread adoption of ICT over the last three decades, both in business and in wider society, has fundamentally transformed the nature of business activities. In particular, the relationship between innovation, markets, and products has become a more accelerated system, demanding businesses adopt new tools, approaches and strategies to succeed and compete.
Issues addressed in this module may include, but not be limited to:
Innovation processes and drivers
Product life cycles and the new product development process
Market adoption and adaptation
Digital business, e-commerce, and globalisation
Innovation and digital technologies
Disruption and disruptive business models
The wider role of technology in business; operations and functional areas like HR, Finance and Marketing
Horizon scanning and the potential of emergent technology; e.g. Internet of Things
It is also designed to cover the following sections of the Apprenticeship Standard for Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship:
Digital Business and new Technologies:
Approaches to innovation and digital technologies and their impact on organisations, and how their application can be used for organisational improvement and development
Innovation and digital technology’s impact on data and knowledge management for analysing business decision-making
Identify service/organisational improvements and opportunities for innovation and growth, using qualitative and quantitative analysis of information and data and benchmarking against others
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Your work-based assignment should discuss a recent adoption of technology in your organisation. This could be a new system, an electronic tool, a digital communication strategy, internal or external collaborative tool, AI system, an automated process or anything else that has increased the use of digital technology within your organisation.
Your assignment should include a discussion about the reason for the technological implementation in your organisation, how this has been innovative for your organisation, how you are using data available from the adoption of the technology to improve aspects of organisational performance and recommend other areas for possible improvement through with justification for this. (Learning outcomes 1-3)
MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled learning and teaching activities: 32 hours
To consist of:
Face-to-face which will include groupwork, formal teaching, case study analysis, guest speakers and students will be encouraged to share their workplace experiences with others
Online live webinars to take the form of tutorials involving opportunities for group discussion and presentation, flipped-classroom opportunities, further groupwork and case study analysis
Guided independent study: 168 hours
To consist of:
Accessing additional online content such as videos and presentations
Independent reading to consolidate knowledge gained in the formal teaching
Undertaking formative tasks set by the tutor to consolidate learning
Assessment preparation and writing and gathering evidence
Portfolio building
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Describe and comment upon contemporary thinking regarding innovation and product development, and critically evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts, and data, to make judgements.- KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, LEARNING, ENQUIRY
2. Communicate and analyse information, ideas, problems, and solutions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences and make recommendations for further implementations in your organisation - COMMUNICATION, APPLICATION, REFLECTION
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the uncertainty, ambiguity, and limits of knowledge around innovation and business in the modern digital economy - ANALYSIS, PROBLEM-SOLVING
