This module addresses developing and managing strategy. You will learn underlying principles of, and how to use, a range of strategic tools, models and concepts, analysing the external environment and internal capabilities of the organisation.
Subjects covered may include:
• Evaluation of markets and competitive contexts
• Value Chain and resource analysis, including financial analysis
• Stakeholder and leadership assessment
• Cultural aspects - organisational, national and international
• Generating and evaluating strategic options, including:
• Competitive, market based and resource based options
• International strategies & methods of strategic development
• Evaluation of strategic options
• Implementing and controlling strategy, including:
- The management of change
- Political, influencing and negotiating skills in group and team decision-making situations
- Management structures, strategic information systems and controls
- Approaches to risk management and uncertainty
- Competing paradigms affecting decision choice and assessment
- Global and international factors affecting strategic development
Assessment Details
Combined grouping A PORTFOLIO weighted at 50%. An ASSIGMT length 3000 WORDS weighted at 50%.
A choice of on-line assessed mini learning portfolios, including a reflective portfolio. (50%, all learning outcomes).
An Individual 3000 word equivalent Assignment on Strategic Management including a reflective review. (50%, all learning outcomes)

Leanring Strategies
The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 300 hours of activities towards achieving the learning outcomes. These will be split between 78 hours of direct contact with a tutor and 222 hours of directed, guided and self-study, together with preparation for and completion of the assessment tasks. Learning support material will be provided for the module.
The module will draw upon a mixture of activities including lectures, web-based activities, case study analysis, relevant videos and in-class discussions, individual and group problem solving and self-directed learning.
