MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module addresses developing and managing strategy. You will learn underlying principles of, and how to use, a range of strategic tools, models and concepts, analysing the external environment and internal capabilities of the organisation.
Subjects covered may include:
Evaluation of markets and competitive contexts
Value Chain and resource analysis, including financial analysis
Stakeholder and leadership assessment
Cultural aspects - organisational, national and international
Generating and evaluating strategic options, including:
Competitive, market based and resource based options
International strategies & methods of strategic development
Evaluation of strategic options
Implementing and controlling strategy, including:
The management of change
Political, influencing and negotiating skills in group and team decision-making situations
Management structures, strategic information systems and controls
Approaches to risk management and uncertainty
Competing paradigms affecting decision choice and assessment
Global and international factors affecting strategic development
It is also designed to cover the following sections of the Apprenticeship Standard for Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship:
Operational Strategy:
How to develop and implement organisational strategy and plans, including approaches to resource and supply chain management, workforce development, sustainability, taking and managing risk, monitoring and evaluation, and quality assurance
How to manage change in the organisation
Support the development of organisational strategies and plans
Develop and deliver operational plans; set targets and key performance indicators, manage resources, and monitor and measure outcomes to establish operational effectiveness, efficiencies and excellence
Produce reports that clearly present information and data, using a range of interpretation and analytical processes
Gain wide support to deliver successful outcomes
Decision-Making:
How to undertake research, data analysis, problem solving and decision-making techniques
The values, ethics and governance of your organisation
Use evidence-based tools and ethical approaches to undertake problem solving and critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation to support decision making
MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Your work based assignment and evidence will give you the opportunity to analyse and evaluate your organisation’s strategic direction, and you will include evidence as appendices will show your significant involvement in this activity. (Learning outcomes 1-4)
MODULE LEARNING STRATEGIES
Scheduled learning and teaching activities: 64 hours
To consist of:
Face-to-face which will include groupwork, formal teaching, case study analysis, guest speakers and students will be encouraged to share their workplace experiences with others
Online live webinars to take the form of tutorials involving opportunities for group discussion and presentation, flipped-classroom opportunities, further groupwork and case study analysis
Guided independent study: 336 hours
To consist of:
Accessing additional online content such as videos and presentations
Independent reading to consolidate knowledge gained in the formal teaching
Undertaking formative tasks set by the tutor to consolidate learning
Assessment preparation and writing and gathering evidence
Portfolio building
MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Understand and evaluate the organisational factors impacting on and contributing to the effective design and implementation of strategic organisational change programmes, including effective risk assessment. - KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Demonstrate a systematic understanding and critical evaluation of the key aspects of the strategic management process though a comparative analysis of different models and perspectives and their impact on decision-making within your organisation. - ANALYSIS, APPLICATION, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
