You will need access to the University's electronic and physical databases or equivalent resources.
Your studies will be helped by regular reading of the business pages of an appropriate daily or weekly paper/journal.

Module Additional Assessment Details
A Group Presentation (30 mins) weighted at 25% - Assesses Learning Outcomes 1 and 2.
An Assignment (2400 words) weighted at 75% - Assesses Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
The design of this element will be appropriate to the learning mode (including overseas residential where such is included in the course.)
It will set some tasks that require consideration of the international context of one or more organisations (LO 1, LO 2, LO 3)
It will also require a personal reflection on the cultural aspects of conducting transactions between two or more national cultures. (LO 3).
To achieve a Pass mark, you must show understanding of the techniques and theories covered in the relevant course material and their applications.
To achieve a Distinction grade, you need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the techniques covered and an ability to crically apply theory to business applications.
Students must attain a mark of at least 30% in both the Group Presentation and the Individual Assignment.
Module Indicative Content
This module develops and applies ideas of strategic management to multi-national organisations (MNEs). The nature of MNEs and the patterna nd structure of global business is examined.
The following topics will contribute to the module:-
- Internationalisation and globalisation
- Trading blocs and the structure fo the world economy
- Multi-national enterprises and FDI
- Corporate strategy in a global context
- Market entry strategies
- Source of national competitive advantage
- National cultures and cross cultural management
- Strategy implementation issues in a global context
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for the part-time on-campus and corporate delivery modes requires students to commit to 150 learning hours (including assessment). Of this there will be 36 hours of class or workshop support and 114 hours of independent and self-directed study for students working alone or as part of a learning group.
The tutor led sessions will tend to follow a general pattern of introduction of a topic and provision of frameworks and models for student learning, followed by application and appropriate data or case study materials. Also key readings will be provided for class discussion and critical evaluation. Students will be expected to perform set exercises. these will include the analysis and discussion of cases, and the critical review of journal articles individually or as part of a learning group. Students will be expected to obtain supplementary information from a number of paper or electronic sources as part of their preparation. Issues of globalisation will also be explored for those on routes requiring compulsory overseas residential.
