Learning
The necessity to effectively manage the development of new products and services is regarded by many as an organisation’s lifeblood. This module concentrates on the process, management techniques and tools that are used throughout a projects life cycle to ensure effective and appropriate decision making.
Practice
Evaluating the outcome of good project management through evaluation of selected problem/practice base.
Identifying & developing individual organisational agility and drive for results competencies in management & leadership roles.
The module covers the following areas:
1. The role that projects play in an organisational context.
2. Project evaluation techniques.
3. Project Lifecycle concepts.
4. The role of the project manager.
5. Project management methodologies.
6. People processes.
7. A critical awareness of project planning (including, but not limited to, developing a work breakdown structure, scheduling, costs and benefits, stakeholder management and risk management).
8. Project monitoring control.
9. Effective project closure.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
An individual assignment of 3,000 words weighted at 100% and testing all module LO's which is based students agreeing a current business-related project for an organisation that they are familiar with, and the assignment taking the form of the development of a detailed project report (including industry standard planning documents) to effectively and efficiently plan, manage and monitor the project.
The assignment will include a 500-word minimum element reflecting critically on the relevant underpinning organisational agility & drive for results management & leadership competencies as they relate to this module.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 200 learning hours. There will be 39 hours of class support, made up of lectures, tutorials, workshops and computer lab sessions and 161 hours of independent and self-directed study. Learning support material will be provided for the module. In your independent study time, you will be expected to prepare for discussions/work to be used in the next tutorial, workshop, or lab.
These learning strategies will occupy your time:
Keynote lectures are used to indicate the main points of the core course material;
Student-centred practical tutorials, workshops and computer lab sessions to develop and illustrate the main points in small groups in applying techniques to a case study;
Student-led seminars or debating sessions will be used where appropriate to develop discursive skills;
Case studies, guided reading and open learning materials will be provided where relevant to help give structure to independent learning.
