Written reflective assignment which also includes examples of work (as appendices) undertaken throughout module workshops as evidence of skills gained. Approximately1500 words.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module enables you to develop reflection and this will help you to build your confidence as a learner. Through reflection you will be able to identify where your strengths and areas for further development lie. It will help you to develop the skills necessary for successful study in Higher Education such as team work and research skills. In addition you will find out how to use the library and IT facilities effectively.
1.1 What is HE? Developing an understanding of this level of study and beginning the processes of reflection.
1.2 Independent learning skills - library/research skills, IT skills and support, on-line learning materials to support study and time management
1.3 Developing skills – communication, team work and introduction to theory
1.4 Assessment support and preparing a reflective written assignment
LEARNING STRATEGIES
The focus of the module is an introduction to the range of learning strategies used at university via an interactive, experiential workshop format. The workshops will provide an experiential introduction to lectures, seminars, on-line learning and students will begin to learn the skills which are appropriate to higher education. E.g. reflection and critical thinking skills. Students will also be introduced to a range of learning strategies which will facilitate their development as autonomous learners. E.g. use of the VLE and referencing skills. Using workshop activities learners will be able to identify areas where they may need additional support.
The module will be taught by a small team of tutors, library specialists and cross university support staff. Information, advice and guidance and personal tutoring will be available to students throughout the programme and will be supervised by the Award Leader.
