This is essentially a practical module, assessed through two assessments
1. The practical assignment work will typically centre around the creation of a small set of Web pages, allowing you to demonstrate relevant Web site design skills. This assignment will be tutor and peer assessed. (70%) (Learning outcomes 1-6, a-c)
2. Research Assignment (30%) (Learning outcomes 7 and d)

Module Learning Strategies
The style of the module is based on a series of directed practical sessions with informal demonstrations and talks. Practical materials will be published as electronic distributed learning. The emphasis of this module is to introduce you to the tools, concepts and constraints of good Web site design through practical examples and exercises.
There will normally be one whole group session and one tutorial per week.

Module Indicative Content
The module covers the page design and construction process, enabling you to build groups of pages as a coherent whole.
Various topics are covered, including an introduction to World Wide Web server-side technology, page design using HTML and a web page editor, site design and construction, style sheets, dynamic html and current trends in browser technology.
Other areas include: Media linking - static data, introduction to copyright and publishing laws, data capture, manipulation, editing and preparation for publishing.
Module Learning Outcome
1. Design and implement web pages to fulfil given requirements
2. Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate technical elements in the production of web pages
3. Use appropriate skills to create and maintain groups of web pages in a technically competent fashion
4. Evaluate the structure of web pages and sites
5. Apply an awareness of international copyright issues to a particular document
6. Identify issues, assimilate, evaluate and analyse material as a result of independent or collaborative research and formulate a practical solution to the problem, making use of the time and resources available
7. Undertake independent research on a specified topic of internet technology
This module will also give you opportunity to demonstrate the following skills:
