Module Learning Strategies
This course is essentially experiential in nature. Participants will receive some theoretical background that will be put into practice. This background will be provided in a course manual which will be distributed on the first day of training. This manual will be used throughout the contact hours of training. Formative feedback will be provided by tutors on these days. Some sections will be completed throughout the training and some will be taken away for use in personal study hours.

During the four days of the course, participants will experience a variety of learning activities including:
8 hours group work
3 hours role play
3 hours case study work
2 hours group reflection exercises
8 hours information giving sessions

There are a total of 24 contact hours for this course. There are an expected 126 hours of self study. This will be made up of:
- completion of the course manual
- research / reading
- study skills workshop to receive support on viva voce and MCQ's
Module Indicative Content
This module will include:
- legal information relevant to sexual health and the field of sexual health work
- key information about SAIs and ways of approaching work around this as well as information around contraception and how to communicate this to others
- holistic sexuality and how to make it positive
- sex and language
- natural sexual development
- sources of sexual messages
- values and attitudes of participants and how these relate to work practice
- dimensions of sex education
- essential elements of anti discriminatory practice and how this relates to work in sexual health.
- skills in answering difficult questions
- building up a good practice list of advice and rehearsing responses
- resources can be used to support sexual health work

Module Additional Assessment Details
Multiple Choice Questions 100% weighting (addressing LO's 1and 2)
Viva Voce 20 minutes duration 0% weighting (addressing LO's 3 and 4) Pass/Fail

Participants will be given a scenario and asked questions on how they can support young people with their personal development through sex and relationships education.

Both elements of assessment must be passed
