Reflective essay, addressing LO's 1, 2 and 3
Profile of competencies, addressing LO's 2 and 3 - Pass/Fail

Both elements of assessment must be passed.

Further assessment detail:
A reflective essay on a significant issue arising from an element of care from own practice.

The reflective case study must be based on a patient/client or patients/clients cared for within the last 12 months.

The Profile of competencies must be completed within the time span of the module and the level to be achieved is Identified within the Competency Portfolio.

Formative feedback:
Case study discussion; quiz; student presentation; OSCE; tutorials.
Module Indicative Content
This interactive module will introduce students to knowledge and skills to enable them to manage programmes of care for individuals suffering from a stroke. The content will comprise:
Anatomy and physiology of the brain and the applied patho-physiology occurring in stroke; risk factors for stroke; national standards for stroke care and local service infrastructures; key research findings; acute monitoring procedures, assessment tools and early mobilisation of the patient following stroke; perception and cognition issues in stroke; dysphagia management and nutrition issues; theories of dressing practice; dysphasia management; psychological aspects of stroke care; continence promotion and incontinence management in stroke; theories of normal movement, motor learning and movement analysis; positioning and handling of patients; central and peripheral neuopathic pain management.
