Module Details
Module Indicative Content
The module will include an examination of the legislation impacting on sexual health, along with an exploration of the theory of ethics and its application to sexual health service provision.

The knowledge will be delivered via lectures over three themed study days which could also be accessed by students who only wish to gain the knowledge delivered on those days.

The Legislation Day will examine the student's interpretation of legislation how it impacts on sexual health provision, then go on to how legislation is developed; Green paper (initial proposal), white paper (a more detailed intention) and the different types of law; criminal, civil, common and statute. Also being examined will be how governments use the law to support their policies, with case studies being utilised to look at how the content of legislation impacts on sexual health provision.

The Ethical Day will explore what is meant by ethics with an introduction to ethical theoretical perspectives such as utilitarianism and deontology. Using scenarios from the students own workplace activities will be used to examine how ethics impacts on their role. Ethical frameworks will be introduced and activities will be used for students to use such frameworks to solve ethical dilemmas in practice. Students will be asked to consider how their own attitudes, values and beliefs impact on ethical considerations in sexual health service provision.

Policies and Guidelines Day will examine the function of policies and guidelines, who are they for and on what are they based? Taking into account the legal and ethical considerations discussed previously. Students will be asked to look at developing various policies in the workplace, such as Confidentiality, Consent and Disclosure, examining what the key elements of such policies are and how guidelines to implement such policies can be developed.

Study skills will also be discussed at the end of each study day for those who wish to take the accreditation.
