A literature review and critique of the evidence base on a selected area of infection control, 3,000 words. (all learning outcomes achieved)

Module Indicative Content
Infection control can be described as the only speciality that lends itself across the entire health economy. The module focuses around disease management, protection and prevention of infection spread. Infection Control as part of the Public Health Agenda, is the responsibility of all healthcare workers, therefore, this module aims to raise awareness of infections, discusses and debates global infections, including TB, HIV and other re-emerging infection issues. To address the domestic issues of decontamination and management of infection within healthcare. To examine infections in wounds and the risks of infection in community and acute healthcare.
Module Learning Strategies
Microbiology laboratory exposure (5%); Key lectures (60%); Group work/activities (5%)
Independent Learning: Reading of current documentation, Government agenda's and expand microbiology knowledge. This can be done through a variety of methods including contact with local infection control nurse (30%)
