Module Learning Strategies
The module is designed to be flexible in the style of delivery; incorporating a blended approach with integration of work-based learning and more formal teaching sessions. A variety of teaching/learning strategies focusing on student-centred learning will be used.

- Anatomy and physiology of the eye
- Visual function / Visual pathway
- Management of an ophthalmic clinical environment
- Ophthalmic clinical skills
- Intra/inter professional working
Theory and evidence base for the care of patients with:
- Cataract
- Glaucoma
- Macular degeneration
- Low vision
Module Additional Assessment Details
Clinical competency document PASS/FAIL (contributes to meeting learning outcome 1 & 4)
3,000 word Case Study - Care of an Ophthalmic patient (contributes to meeting learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3)
Multiple Choice Questions PASS/FAIL 80% pass rate. 45 minute test of 30 questions covering the clinical competencies (contributes to meeting learning outcomes 1 & 4)
All elements of assessment must be passed in order to successfully complete the module.
Formative Assessment:
Identification of own knowledge gaps through reflection and tutorials and the development of a learning plan
