Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module will facilitate an in-depth exploration of your clinical leadership knowledge and skills through a process of guided and independent learning in order to expand your leadership role and horizons.
The focus of the module will be on the implementation of strategies that will facilitate critical reflection, analysis and appraisal of self. The aim is to highlight strengths and limitations, making judgements about development needs of essential skills of leadership and self-management in personal and professional practice.
A key element of the leader's role is the ability to build, develop and manage effective relationships with teams and colleagues. This will be achieved by reflecting on the principals that underpin effective team building and team dynamics and applying to practice scenarios through Action Learning.

Leadership tools will be used to identify, analyse and evaluate personal strengths and limitations and used as a basis of Personal Development Planning.

The module will incorporate theories of leadership, management and motivation. Negotiation and assertiveness strategies will be used to develop skills essential for leading and managing self and others and dealing with conflict and resolution.


Key to developing contemporary leadership practice is the ability to critique the impact of policies, philosophies and political agendas and these will be introduced throughout the module.

If you are not working within a practice setting negotiations will be entered in to with the module tutors to identify alternative scenarios to enable you to achieve the learning outcomes. This may include the development of case study material from published sources.
Module Learning Strategies
The module will be delivered using a variety of on-line methods and approaches and the team are mindful that at this level negotiation and facilitation is important.

Contact hours: (30) will include:
15 hours keynote powerpoints, negotiated interactive on-line, discussion and small group work, on-line presentations:
15 hours Action learning:

Independent Study Hours: (120) will include:
10 hours group and individual tutorial time
40 hours mentoring and shadowing and preparation for Action Learning
40 hours implementation and analysis of leadership tools
30 hours preparation of personal development plans and assessed work

Module Additional Assessment Details
PORTFOLIO 100% equivalent to 3500words (contributes to meeting LO's 1, 2, 3 and 4)

The submitted portfolio will be assessed against the inclusion of a range of substantive evidence demonstrating achievement of module outcomes and leadership developments. This will include analysis of leadership tools and a range of additional evidence which may include reports of significant meetings/forums; reflective reports analysis of significant events; critical incident analysis; evidence of team developments which may include evaluation of events such as away days, team meetings, dealing with challenging situations and conflict, identification of individual and team developments and formulation of learning contracts, action plans and personal development plans.

Formative Assessment: Online discussions will be held with tutors to identify the requirements for the portfolio including support for action learning.
