Attendance at approximately 6 seminars presented by specialists in social philosophy and theory.
Reading
Preparing and presenting a seminar paper and/or conference presentation.
Active engagement in seminar discussions
Preparing and writing a 5000 word paper.
Module Indicative Content
Examination and comparison of philosophies and theories (i.e. ontology and epistemology within a social and historical context) underpinning social and organisational research relevant to nursing and health care organisations and systems. These will include the following: positivism, phenomenology, critical theory, feminism, critical realism and social constructionism (incorporating structuration, post-structuralism and post-modernism).
