Access to bookable studio space and lecture/seminar room with blackout and digital presentation hardware. Access to digital storage. Computer workshop facilities and appropriate hardware and software. Slide Library. Specialist skills 'modulettes' will be assigned to this module.
Module Learning Strategies
The module is based on a set of practical tutorials and short projects. You will complete several artefacts which focus and develop your ability to produce technically good video and sound, and montage moving images and sound to tell stories. You will be working with others, but be individually responsible for final work and log-file.

Module Indicative Content
This module introduces digital video and sound production, and interactive streaming video delivery through practical tutorials and short projects. You will study and use the technology and concepts of digital filmmaking and coding-for-video/sound delivery: basics video-cameras, tungsten-lights, sound-recording, editing software, streaming, compressions/formats,
You will work on:
- project work de-constructing and constructing storylines in moving images & sound
- digital video cameras and cinematography, basic tungsten lighting,
- digital sound recording kit and techniques
- digital editing (sound and video), inc blue-screen drop-outs
- coding for streaming sound and video
- A log-book and digital folder of development work, annotating your progress in practical image-making, and noting and assessing its relation to historical genres and practice
- analysis of streaming media in industry, and gathering a range of support material and online sources
Module Additional Assessment Details
Coursework is made up of aggregated components using negotiated briefs and content to cover learning outcomes 1-3; a final assessment grade will take an holistic view of the student's achievements across all components.
You will asked to produce a digital log-file of projects including date-stamped written analysis and examples of your progress in set projects and reviews of others work. [Learning Outcomes 1-3]
The contents of log-files (digital and printed) will be:
- Digital captures of examples -annotated for methods of construction
- Captures of work in progress - particularly pre-production documentation produced on the basis of group work (eg scripts and storyboards) with notes for production and analysis for next iteration of the artefact.
- Highlighted captures of relevant help files or advice obtained online
- Highlighted and annotated tutorial/lecture/demonstration notes, indicating passages relevant to work in progress
A single assessment grade will take an holistic view of the student's achievements.
