Module Indicative Content
This module integrates practical production skills developping in other modules. You will complete a interactive streaming media artifact in teams. The assignment work focuses on the art of documentary filmmaking, using and creating spoken word, sound and moving imagery as separate, but integrated elements of the narrative. An essential part of the module is team-work; working with colleagues, and subject(s)
You will work on:
+ a main assignment as a group, defining specific task for team-members, but sharing team roles. Project work will be developed and refined through pooled analysis of pre-production research and development, and of production work in progress.
+ a log-file of pre-production work, production stills, and stills from "rushes" noting and assessing success and possible improvements
You will attend and participate in lectures, seminars and events covering;
+ an overview of the filmmaking terms and methodologies and documentation
+ an overview of the roles of a documentary production team
+ analysis of examples of examples of the genre and outline of current standards and practices

100% coursework
1. You will asked to produce a log-file of your progress on your tasks in the main assignment and reviews of others work.
The contents of log-files (digital and printed) will be:
+ a production file - showing good use of your own and your teams understanding and skill in digital filmmaking though task management and allocation
+ annotating your team's pooled analysis of your own work, and outlining current and projected production schedules
+ production stills annotated with key production issues that arose during the shoots -- eg what went right, what went wrong, who was there,
+ screen-grabs of "rushes" noting and assessing success and possible improvements to composition, lighting, quality and content
+ outline of editing sequences related to initial storyboards
+ finished production edit(s) and prototype interactive artifact
+ highlighted and annotated tutorial/lecture/demonstration notes, indicating passages relevant to work in progress
A single assessment grade will take an holistic view of the student?s achievements.
Module Learning Strategies
The module is based documentary video production
The learning activity centres on development of a interactive streaming media documentary, which covers events spread over a period of time.
1. Production of assignment work focused on telling a subjects' story(s) in a clear and interesting way using standard filmmaking techniques,
methodologies and concepts
2. Attending and participating in lectures, seminars and events covering;
3. Participation in initial and interim seminars to monitor progress and understanding and background development as presented in your own and
other log-files

Design Study Collection
Non-specialist computing facilities for email, internet access, word processing, database, spreadsheet and basic presentations will be available through the University's 'Information Services' on-campus facilities - the exception being the 'studio browsers' which are located in base rooms/studios and will provide mainly email and internet access which are provided by the Faculty.
Specialist skills 'modulettes' will be assigned to this module. A comprehensive list of the modulettes is available from the Faculty Office, together with the current operational parameters for the modulettes (instruction description, maximum group size, time allocation, level etc). Some modules will have will have more than one modulette assigned to it and this information will also be held by the Faculty Office.
