You will produce a project plan for a creative project of your choice using appropriate visual techniques and supported by a report of approximately 2000 words which justifies your plan [Learning Outcome 3]
The Plan and supporting report should show how you would deal with the following issues - project aims and evaluation, allocation and monitoring and controlling of resources, risk and critical path analysis, clear and frequent communication [Learning Outcomes 1,2]

Module Indicative Content
A considerable amount of work undertaken by creative businesses is in the form of projects. This module will present the techniques and methods for successful project management in these contexts. On completion of the module you will be a knowledgeable and successful project participant, leading to your eventual ability to manage projects. Firstly, there will be an overview of the requirement for project management and the potential for tension between management methods with the needs of creative people and businesses. You will find out about the key stages and issues involved in project management including setting aims and objectives, devising an evaluation strategy, identifying risk and critical path, allocating resources, ensuring there are sufficient monitoring and controlling mechanisms. You will also learn about communication techniques used to inform project team members and clients and use these methods in your assessment.
Module Learning Strategies
Seminars and lectures will be the main vehicle for delivery of the fundamental ideas and methods involved in project management. There will be a session each week for the first half of the module and from there to the end of the module, you will be supported in the task of developing your assessed work through tutorials. During the module there will be at least one session where a manager from an appropriate business will talk to students about project management in practice. Students are also encouraged to visit businesses relevant to their own creative practice to identify how projects are managed in this context. You will be able to develop a critical view of the strengths and weaknesses of this practice in relation to the theory presented in the module.
