Module Indicative Content
This module facilitates your in-depth exploration of your specialist area of clinical practice. Promoting the acquisition and application of higher level knowledge and skills to advance your clinical practice are key concepts of this module. Accordingly, this module is practice based and the development of clinical skills is guided by a Clinical Preceptor who is an expert in your clinical speciality.
Clinical skills will focus upon four broad areas for expert clinical practice development:
providing effective healthcare, expanding skills and the boundaries of practice, leading practice, and innovating and improving the quality of practice. The range of underpinning evidence may encompass:
theoretical and conceptual material
evidenced-based/best practice evaluation and research
problem solving and decision-making
ethical and legal dimensions
professional accountability and autonomous practice
improving health outcomes
developing self and others
collaborative working
resource management and lobbying
Module Learning Outcome
1.Demonstration of professional accountability for an increasing range of autonomous practice (knowledge and understanding, problem solving)
2.Critically analyse complex issues and challenging situations in relation to personal role development and performance, and practice development. (analysis, reflection)
3.Demonstrate a systematic understanding of specialist knowledge applied to the key areas of expanding clinical practice (knowledge and understanding)
4.Apply skills of self direction and innovation when tackling and solving problems, and making decisions, in complex and often unpredictable situations (problem solving)

Module Learning Strategies
Supervised clinical practice by your Clinical Preceptor will promote an individualised learning pathway. You will negotiate clinical goals with your Preceptor and formulate action plans to achieve their success. Your Clinical Preceptor will guide you as to the appropriateness of the action points and outcome statements. The use of the goal/action planning process utilises your critical reflection as a basis for identifying both contextual knowledge bas and practice based learning needs. They will help you focus upon your needs related to your clinical speciality and act as a vehicle to structure learning and assessment. This independent learning which includes clinical practice will involve the majority of time for this module - 290 hours.

Student directed seminars of 10 hours in totals related to portfolio development will enable you to share ideas of advancing practice with colleagues from different specialities and act in the process of formative assessment.

Students may if they wish, complete a formative Assessment: Student seminar presentation of a sample selection of portfolio work
