Module Additional Assessment Details
1. Portfolio weighted at 100% (contributes to meeting LO's 3, 4, 5 & 6).
This will provide evidence to demonstrate achievement of learning. Evidence to include the following;
SWOT analysis
Goal Plan
Action Plan
Two reflective case studies in relation to paramedic practice development (minimum of 2500 words each) and must follow a reflective model.

2. Paramedic Practice Assessment (pass/refer) Continuous clinical practice assessment document which will demonstrate competence in relevant areas. This will require signature against all clinical learning hours which will consist of 60 hours of supervised clinical practice (contributes to meeting LO's 1,2 & 6)

both elements of assessment must be passed for successful completion of the module

Module Indicative Content
1. Patient Assessment & Management across the age continuum in the out of hospital setting
History taking, clinical decision making & problem solving, risk assessment, multidisciplinary team and collaborative working and communication skills.
Assessment and management of patients presenting with a range of acute, chronic & minor conditions linked to all systems of life;
Major & minor trauma (including trauma emergencies; chest, head, abdominal & musculoskeletal trauma, trauma in pregnancy, thermal injuries, drowning, electrocution)
Pain assessment & management, Pain assessment tools
Psychological & social factors influencing health and disease
Chemical, radiological, biological and nuclear incidents & care
National & local policies & guidelines
12 lead ECG interpretation
Recognition & management of life extinct

2. Fundamental and advanced clinical skills across the age continuum
Manual handling; infection control; basic & advanced airway management; basic & advanced life support (including defibrillation); cricothyroidectomy; needle thoracentesis; intravenous cannulation; intraosseous cannulation; external jugular cannulation; administration of fluid and drug therapy, , intraosseous infusion, recording of 12 lead ECG's, out of hospital thrombolysis, transcutaneous cardiac pacing, Maternity skills.

3. Diverse groups in the out of hospital setting
This will include recognition and management (including coping strategies) of health care needs including bio psychosocial care. This will be supported by the application of government legislation, national and local policy and guidelines eg. NICE, SIGN, NSF's, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity, Children's Act, End of Life Care strategies etc. Issues of vulnerability and consent; cultural & spiritual aspects affecting health care and its delivery; legal and ethical issues; risk assessment & management; communication skills including negotiation and advocacy.
