Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to enable students to integrate their learning and experience of nursing care, developing their ability to manage, analyse and evaluate children's nursing care within the context of the wider nursing and multi disciplinary team. Content includes:
Mandatory sessions
Core and branch specific skills
Safeguarding children- issues and process
The integration of holistic assessment with age appropriate care and therapeutics to manage the health needs of children with altered pathophysiology to include spiritual, cultural, nutritional and emotional diversity and to incorporate children in pain and those with life limiting conditions.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health(CAMHS)- overview of issues to include eating disorders
Child development- evaluating the effects of altered health states
Organisation, management and evaluation of care delivery including challenging situations and the management of change.
Using evidence-based practice in decision making.
Engagement in teaching and health promotion.
Establishing and managing therapeutic relationships with children and families; disengage/ promote transitional care between services as appropriate.
National and locally driven health and social care policies, strategies and guidelines to incorporate risk assessment and clinical governance.

Assignment demonstrating a review of care planning (assessment, planning & evaluation) for a chosen child, demonstrating achievement of Learning Outcomes 2 - 8
A CLINICAL PRACTICE assessment weighted at 0%. (LO 1) pass/refer/fail
All elements must be passed.
All students must adhere to the Faculty of Health and Science Policy on Confidentiality and Ethical Issues in Academic Practice and Learning
Formative assessment will include: group discussion, seminar involvement, group and individual tutorials, feedback to student from mentors in clinical practice, simulation/skills practice in skills laboratories
