Module Learning Strategies
This is a distance learning award, and the Blackboard VLE will provide a structured framework for the delivery of this module

Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (5 hours)
2 hours Telephone tutorials with the tutor
3 hours Scheduled discussion boards

Guided Independent Study: (295 hours) This will be made up of:
Preparation for tasks and online discussions and seminars; Wider reading including exploring additional sources of information, (particularly web based), updating their knowledge in line with developments and changes
Reading study materials, asynchronous online seminars, interactive tasks
Preparation for and completing the assignment

Module Indicative Content
This module will enable students to explore and critically reflect upon the concept of volunteering within its practical setting. The setting for this experience should be within a `third sector' organisation operating within the Social Welfare environment.

The module is designed for those students:
a) who have already completed a minimum of 60 hours relevant voluntary or paid activity within the third sector.

b) are currently undertaking a minimum of 60 hours voluntary or paid activity within the third sector.

c) have found and agreed a volunteering/paid opportunity and will undertake the 60 hours within the time frame of the module (one academic year) within the third sector.

The module will allow the student to focus on the personal activity and role within the third sector and the wider society and to critically assess that role and provision in the context of all or some of the following:
- Physical capital
- Human capital
- Economic capital
- Social capital
- Cultural capital
The actual focus to be chosen will be discussed and developed with the module leader and tutors involved.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will complete a e-learning portfolio using the PebblePad portfolio tool (100% weighting). Due to the nature of a portfolio it will have a guidance word count maximum limit of 4000 words. The portfolio will assess all learning outcomes and include:

- A reflective Journal
- An Essay (with a set word Count 2000)
- A skills analysis and a goals/employability analysis

Additional Assessment Details
The PebblePad tool will enable tutors and students to interact online and to therefore receive formative feedback and a way of constant improvement and development.
