Module Resources
An electrical laboratory.
Module Learning Strategies
3 hours lectures/tutorials/practicals per week over two teaching blocks.
1 hour practicals at a ratio of 1:20
Module Indicative Content
Atomic structure, electrostatics, current. The Ampere and Coulomb. Potential difference. Energy and power. DC circuit analysis.
Magnetic effects. The magnetic field. Field due to a current. Flux density.
Electromagnetic forces and induction.
Self-inductance, capacitance, exponential charging of a capacitor, sine wave theory, frequency in radions / sec and HZ.
Phase angle, peak average and rms values. Reactance and elementary AC theory. Wing phasor diagram.
Introduction to combinational logic, the binary number system.

1 x written assignment (50%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1 and 2
