Module Resources
Access to a calculator and appropriate mathematical software is necessary.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategies will require students to commit 150 learning hours, of which 48 hours will consist of contact time. A combination of lectures and tutorial/workshops will provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of mathematical skills. A further 102 hours of independant study will require students to further develop and practise these skills using prepare formative exercises.

THIS MODULE WILL NORMALLY RUN IN SEMESTER 1
Module Indicative Content
Manipulation and simplification of algebraic expressions, including algebraic fractions and simple partial fractions.
Indices and logarithms.
Graphs and equations involving linear, quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions and their use in modelling physical problems (including reduction of exponential form to linear form).
Trigonometric functions, including Pythagoras Theorem, sine and cosine rules, addition formulae, and their use when modelling periodic motion.
Module Additional Assessment Details
1 x Assignment (30%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1 and 3
1 x 2 hour Examination (70%) which will assess Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3
