This module may be delivered full-time on a block delivery basis at West Cheshire College.
Module Indicative Content
Fundamental units - the SI system of units. Introduction to direct stress and shear analysis. Free body diagram,
Scalar and vector quantities: force, mass, displacement, velocity, acceleration, momentum, relationship between linear and angular motion, temperature, pressure, introduction to fluid flow.
Introduction to the equations describing constant acceleration, friction.
Concepts of impulse, work, energy and power.
Bending moment and beam deflection analysis.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A Laboratory Log Book describing applications of a range of mechanical systems principles and relevant models (50%) to assess learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.
A 2hr exam (50%) unseen in exam conditions assessing Learning outcome 1.
