Module Learning Strategies
Delivery will comprise lectures (12 hours) and workshops (12 hours) which will include student centred exercises and independent study.
Independent study and guided learning will support each session. You can expect to spend around 24 hours in preparation for the workshops. Self tuition through a Study Pack is expected to take approximately 12 hours and access to tutor and work-based guidance will take place. It is expected that in-house support will facilitate the learning environment and you could expect to spend about 24 hours on work-based learning. Additionally you can expect to utilise some web-based learning materials for about 24 hours as part of your independent learning, in addition to the study pack time.
Module Indicative Content
This module develops the knowledge, understanding and skills required to identify hazards in the workplace, assess levels of risk, make recommendations to control risks and review the outcomes. It makes reference to appropriate health, safety and welfare legislation, and the importance of complying with such legislation, is made throughout the module. The module will develop the learner's ability to carry out risk assessments, formulate safety policy and develop safe working practices in the workplace, focussing on the construction sector and the responsibility for Health and safety at Design and Construction Stages. It will therefore look at:
Health, Safety and Welfare legislation generally and in the construction sector
Health and Safety Policies and organisational arrangements
Hazard and risk identification
Risk assessments and control measures

One individual coursework assignment of 2,500 words (based upon a case study) (100%) covering all the Learning Outcomes.
