Module Indicative Content
This module will provide knowledge and understanding of the principles and application of project management in the construction industry. It will focus on:
Identification of project management - definition of project management, managerial skills, technical knowledge and abilities, leadership, delegation, negotiation, decision making, education and training.
Identification of the client's main objectives - client's brief, appointing the design team, involvement of main contractor, reports and recommendations.
Design process management - co-ordination and control during construction on site, contractual relationships of the project manager, powers, responsibilities, authority and accountability.
Project planning - project objectives and aims, time and cost factors, risk management, project organisations, quality management, communication.
Change - change management in the construction industry, developing best practice and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), construction best practice, benchmarking.
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures (12 hours) and workshops (12 hours)
Delivery will comprise lectures, tutorials and independent study. Learners will be encouraged to provide oral presentations from their own studies and experience.
Independent study and guided learning will support each session. Self tuition through a Study Pack and access to tutor and work-based guidance will take place. It is expected that in-house support will facilitate the learning environment. Additionally you can expect to utilise web-based learning as part of your independent learning.
Module Additional Assessment Details
One individual case study based coursework assignment of 2,500 words (100%) assessing all Learning Outcomes.
