Module Indicative Content
Objective: To study how various commercial aspects of the music business operate, enabling the student to make informed decisions for career choices.

Content:This class is driven by participation and discussion, a group project and two exams. For each class, a reading assignment will be given from the required text. It is the responsibility of each member of the class to complete the reading assignment and be prepared to contribute insightful thoughts and ideas during class discussions from both these readings as well as from an industry publication of your choice.

Industry Papers: A one-page summary and response to a current article in one of the approved trade publications. An oral presentation of these will be made followed by a short question and answer period. Questions from the class are encouraged.

Business Plan: Business plans help identify goals, see where the strengths and weaknesses are of your project and help determine if your project will turn a profit. Any type of business from a record label to a singer-songwriter must have a business plan in place. All topics for business plans must be approved. Your business plan can be on any type of business as long as it is something that you are passionate about.
