Module Resources
Supervisor, library, computing facilities, relevant software, Internet and experimental facilities as required. Access to music technology studios and other facilities as appropriate.

Relevant texts will vary depending on the nature of the project. Appropriate works will be identified by the student and the supervisor.
Module Learning Strategies
Information gathering to identify all relevant previous works underpinning the proposed project including discussions with supervisor.

Critical evaluation of the relevant previous work to clearly establish the foundation on which the proposed project will build.

Critical evaluation of the composition and layout of high quality research papers in the field of study to establish the appropriate writing style and the clarity of communication which is required in advanced level reporting of the proposed research.

Technical discussions with relevant experts and specialists in industry and/or University.

In-depth application of existing research techniques, numerical analysis methods, experimental techniques etc as required for the successful and timely completion of an advanced level research project.

Report writing, preparation of oral presentation, and oral presentation of report content, all at a professional level similar to that expected at a national technical conference. This may also include reviews of reports / presentations produced by previous students.

Module Additional Assessment Details
A Project length 12,000 WORDS weighted at 70%. An individual presentation weighted at 30% which will include assessment of the portfolio.

Assessing Learning Outcomes 1-6
1. The technical content and the clarity and layout of the submitted project report.
2. The content, layout and clarity of the oral presentation of the project report.
3. Your ability to defend the project report contents in front of a panel. The recommended approximate length of the project report is 12,000 words of main text.

100% in-class assessment as follows:-

- Project report technical content, clarity and layout - 70%
- Oral presentation and oral defence of project report content and portfolio- 30%

Module Indicative Content
In consultation with a designated supervisor, formulate the content and the time schedule for an advanced level research project in the field of music technology. The research will be formulated to be at a level appropriate to the award of MSc
Using established research techniques, carry out the chosen research project autonomously with minimal supervision.

Write a comprehensive report and produce an appropriate portfolio of work covering the research programme. Present the completed work in a final interview
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Students must have completed the postgraduate diploma in Music Technology. Students may carry forward 15 failed credits from that award in any module except the Research Methods in Music Technology module. Students must have passed the Research Methods in Music Technology module before they are eligible to take the MSc Project in Music Technology.
