Module Indicative Content
Overview

There is an increasing and accelerating need for organisations to compete in a global market. Managers have to develop a skill set to meet the global challenge of working with and in an international community. The module seeks to explore the demands made on the international manager and also investigates implications for human resource management in a variety of countries. The module builds on the understanding of human resource practices obtained at level 1.

Content

The module will include:-
The organisational, societal cultures in a global business context
Consideration of the drivers and mechanisms which are causing the globalising of business
The global organisation in context of human resource management coupled with the (HR) strategies which are essential to support the truly multinational organisation, the strategic models of HRM and International HRM
The skill sets of the global manager and, in particular the global HR manager
HR flows, work and reward systems in an international context.
Specific examples of International HRM for selected countries [e.g. Europe (the supranational state), USA, Russia, China, Germany, UK, etc. countries studied may change]
Module Additional Assessment Details
A written individual assignment of 2,000 words, to be submitted at the end of the module. 100% Tests all learning outcomes.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for the module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment) of this there will be 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent and self directed study. Support will also be given by access to Scheduled Tutor Office Hours to support the module.

Learning support material will be provided for the module.

(The above times will be different for part-time students as they will have work related experience).

Formative assessment will be available during the module through the group/class activities
