Module Additional Assessment Details
a) 1 hour in-class examination of listening comprehension, reading and writing - 30%. Assesses Learning Outcomes 4.
b) An essay, not exceeding 2500 words - 70% (LO1, 2 and 3)
It is required that no part of the assessment within the module falls below 30% (Grade 3).
Module Indicative Content
This module is designed to enable students to develop a basic understanding of the Chinese culture and its influences in business relationships. it also seeks to help students acquire the skills to interact with Chinese people in simple social and business contexts with an appreciation of the Chinese business protocols. Specifically, it covers the following:-
a) Culture
- Introduction to the Chinese Industry
- Chinese cultural values
- Interacting with Chinese people socially
- Interacting with Chinese business people at work
b) Language
- meeting and greeting
- giving information about oneself
- Dealing with simple information about others
- Recognising a limited number of commonly used characters
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment), of which there will be 48 hours of class support and 102 hours of independent and self directed study. There will be a series of sessions exploring the indicative contents of the module and the recommended supporting learning materials
