Module Details
Module Indicative Content
A range of study skills which will enable students to gain confidence in and gain more from their academic studies will be considered, including getting organised for study, reading texts, note taking, writing summaries, report writing, presentations and meetings, tackling examinations, Personal development and IT skills will be introduced.

The various objectives that organisations may adopt will be examined within the context of the internal environment of the firm and its functions, for example, marketing and human resource management.

Accounting terminology, the legal framework of accounting; compilation of basic financial statements (trading and profit and loss account, balance sheets) will be introduced and interpreted.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A Portfolio of work assembled during the semester - 35% - Assesses Learning Outcome 1.
Oral Presentation (10%) - Interpretation of accounts (short report - 20%) - Assesses Learning Outcomes 1 and 2.
A short Assignment, 2000 words - 35% - Assesses Learning Outcome 3.

A single case study including SWOT analysis will be introduced.
Module Learning Strategies
The Learning Strategies will require students to commit 300 learning hours, of which 72 hours will consist of contact time. A combination of lectures and tutorial/workshops will provide students with the opportunity to develop a range of skills.
A further 228 hours of independent study will require students to further develop and practice these skills using a combination of formative and summative assessment exercises independently and as part of a small group.
