Module Learning Outcome

(a) understanding the spoken language in a variety of contexts.
(b) engaging appropriately in everyday conversations and transactions (including the presentation of basic ideas).
(c) demonstrating comprehension of the written language in familiar contexts.
(d) using the written language to provide information in familiar situations and showing a grasp of key grammatical structures.

A ORAL length .17 weighted at 25%. A AURAL length 1 weighted at 25%. A EXAMINATION - UNSEEN IN EXAMINATION CONDITIONS length 2 HOUR(S) weighted at 50%.
Module Learning Strategies

Emphasis will be placed on practical use of the language in everyday situations, plus guided and independent study which will develop and give practice in the competences listed under 'learning outcomes'.
You will also be required to provide a portfolio of work (4 pieces per semester) which will be part of your guided and independent study, and in which you can practise some of the skills you will be assessed in.
Learning generally supported by an appropriate textbook.
Module Indicative Content

Key grammatical structures and vocabulary necessary to extend your use of language, such as the ability to talk about events in the past and future.
French in everyday situations, developing the capacity to interact with French speakers in both speaking and writing.
An awareness of cultural aspects of France.
Practice will be given in all four skills:-
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
Module Additional Assessment Details

The oral element (25%) comprises in-class tests (approx 10 minutes) which will demonstrate competence in learning outcome (b).
The aural element (25%) comprises an in-class test (approx 1 hour) which will demonstrate competence in learning outcome (a).
The unseen exam (2 hours) (no dictionaries allowed) (50%) will demonstrate competence in learning outcomes (c) and (d).
