Module Learning Outcome
A knowledge and understanding of International history and global
perspectives. The importance or otherwise of the use of secondary source
texts and minimal abilities in historical and historiographical analysis
and the use of evidence in argument.
Module Learning Strategies
These learning strategies will occupy your time in the form of 80 hours
total learning time of which 20 hours will be class contact.This will be
in the form of weekly 1 hour lectures which will be used to provide
historical background and theoretical debates to some of the most
important events of this century.
The seminars will be used to allow students the opportunity to discuss in
specific terms their readings, independent learning and issues raised by
this. 60 hours will be allocated for independent learning.

Module Indicative Content
During the period 1914-1990 the module considers themes and patterns,
continuities and discontinuities in history. War,'Modernity' and
Civilisation; Women in International History; the 'dwarfing' of Europe;
'disorder' in the 20th Century; focus of attention on the impact of
World War One and World War Two; issues raised by imperialism and
decolonisation and the emergence of the Third World; ideological divide
of East and West; to End of the Cold War.
