Module Special Admissions Requirements
Typically participants will currently be working in an institution offering education to pupils or students.
Module Resources
University library for a range of relevant texts, journals and germane resources including
Internet access to relevant websites.
Module Learning Strategies
You will attend 9 weekly sessions, followed by an assignment workshop. The module will include a range of teaching and learning strategies that will typically include lectures, seminars, workshops, on-line discussion forums, focus groups and student centred activities.
Blackboard will be used both as a content repository and a pedagogic tool during delivery of this module
Module Indicative Content
The module provides participants with opportunities to gain knowledge and understanding of the present day education system in England and how it has evolved. There will also be a focus on the major issues in the main sectors of compulsory, post compulsory and higher education.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Formative:
Participants will undertake a webquest which will require them to visit and research major websites that are relevant to Education Today. The focus of the webquest will be to identify the major issues in the different sectors of education.
Summative:
Participants will engage with a contemporary issue that is of relevance to their own professional practice. The final submission will be either a set of PowerPoint slides (maximum 20, specifications to be provided in handbook), or a guidance leaflet for staff in their area. In either case, the piece produced will outline how and why the issue has evolved in their area of the education system, how the issue is being tackled in the context of their own work and what they may do as individuals to push their chosen agenda forwards.
