Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for the module requires students to commit 300 learning hours, of this there will be 75 hours of class support and 225 hours of independent and self directed study.

Lectures/ lab work/ Presentations /Tutorial
Student managed learning/ directed learning

Apart from the lecture each week, various other methods as mentioned above will be used as learning strategies.
There will be laboratory and tutorial sessions, students will be required to discuss and present various topics of the module in the class. Students will be required to apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts.
Students are expected to be able to structure their own work and to work relatively independently under the guidance of the module teaching staff.
Module Indicative Content
The module will discuss how to tackle design exploration in textiles by reviewing theoretical and practical solutions. It will be necessary to develop a sound knowledge of researching and sourcing ideas for textile design development. This will by necessity require both an historical as well a contemporary perspective and understand how a textile designer operates.
This will result in a wide ranging exploration of sources of inspiration and the cultural or societal overtones at any given point in time. Students will be encouraged to visit galleries, museums and exhibitions in order to bring their personal views into classroom debate and discussion.
In responding to the discoveries form your design exploration students will gain a deeper understanding of the design application process in textiles. This will provide students with opportunities to practice in the management of the process and in the steps to progress an idea through to prototyping.
