Module Details
Module Indicative Content
Participants will be introduced to key business and organisational processes in education. These will include the following.
Human Resources: Practical investigation of selection, recruitment and appraisal procedures.
Funding and Finance: Sources of funding and effective allocation of resources.
Marketing: Introduction to aims of marketing and investigation of their relevance to the educational environment.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Choose one business-related area to focus on in relation to own institution. Write a 1800 word report on current practice in own workplace in relation to this aspect, focusing on:
- Outline of relevant business process and evaluation of its appropriateness to own organisation
- Analysis and evaluation of current institutional practice in relation to this area
- Proposals to enhance organisational processes in relation to business principles outlined.
Module Learning Strategies
You will attend 9 weekly sessions, followed by an assignment workshop. The workshops will include presentations on key business processes, inputs from visiting speakers with expertise in related areas, group discussions to evaluate and compare relevant professional practice. You will take part in a problem-based learning activity focusing on the key issues explored. You will also access relevant materials in Blackboard, including sharing ideas with other participants via the Discussion Board.
