Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to increase the awareness that trends in hairdressing have and will continue to have on the daily practices within the salon environment.
This module will include:
¿ Key manufacturers within the hairdressing industry and their product portfolio.
¿ The impact manufacturers have on products and services offered professionally and commercially.
¿ Hair service changes within the twentieth century and its impact in the twenty first century (exploring the changes within technical services)
¿ Twenty first century trends and the impact on the hair structure
¿ Changing demographics, cultural mixes and its influences within the business.
¿ Research future trends and product development, paying attention to your vision for the future of your business, reflecting on product lines or future salon services
¿ Issues surrounding the introduction of a new service / product to the business, paying attention to manufacturer commitment, costs and staff development.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent and self directed study.
The class sessions will include formal lectures, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.

Details - A work based assignment (1500 words) based on the research of trends in hairdressing. You will be required to include an analysis of your findings to help justify the development of the new product(s) / service(s) (75%) (Learning Outcomes 1,2, 3 & 4)
A video or Powerpoint presentation summarising the benefits to the business of implementing new product(s) / service(s), which must include a critical evaluation of feedback received. (500 words), (25%) (Learning Outcome 4)
