Module Special Admissions Requirements
The entry requirements for the award are normally:
A teaching qualification: for example: DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, C&G 7307 (stage one and two), C&G 7407 (stage one and two), C&G 7305.
Access to 20 hours of teaching a vocational subject in the Lifelong Learning Sector (with learners at or below Level 2 ¿ FE in Literacy, Language or Numeracy)
Able to be observed twice
Module Indicative Content
This module will focus on the government¿s strategy to embed Literacy, Language and Numeracy in the vocational classroom. It will investigate key policies including the introduction of Functional Skills and the impact on vocational teaching. This will lead on to an analysis of the key benefits of embedded learning, with a review of the research carried out on the causes and consequences of poor Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) skills, the impact on the individual, society and the global economy, with emphasis on the workplace. You will research the embedded approaches to LLN and investigate the key features of successful practice and how this could be employed or is being employed within your own organisation. You will investigate the planning, delivery and assessment cycle of an embedded vocational programme within a chosen area of specialism.
Module Learning Strategies
There will be 10 hours of face to face contact and 20 hours of directed distance learning.
There will be peer and tutor presentations, group learning and research, both online and face to face. You will have access to group and individual tutorials, where you will be encouraged to manage your own learning. There will be opportunities for group reading and discussions, above all the delivery will be modelling the practice you will be using in the vocational classroom. Throughout the module you will be encouraged to be a reflective learner as well as a reflective practitioner.

Module Additional Assessment Details
Learning outcomes will be assessed through:
4,000 word assignment or equivalent tasks:
1.1 Participate in four online discussions about key theories and educational issues relating to embedded learning, the benefits of embedded learning and functional skills. All participants will need to take a full and active part in each of the forums by replying to contributions made by peers, extending a discussion with reference to external sources and engage in a critical analysis of the content of those sources. Learning Outcomes one, two and three (weighting 40%, equivalent to 1,600 words)
1.2 Research, analyse and present in a written report an overview of your organisation¿s approach to embedded learning contrasting with other models of embedded learning, including an overview of the learner journey on a vocational course in a chosen specialist area. Learning outcomes four, five and six (weighting 60%, 2,400 words)
All areas of assessment need to be passed in order to successfully pass the Module.
