Module Indicative Content

The aim of this module is to introduce students to three key HR themes. These are;
1. The fundamentals of business issues in the context of HRM
2. Managing and coordinating the HR function
3. Organisational design.

Topics included, but are not restricted too, the following;
¿ Role of the HR function
¿ Aims and objectives of HR departments
¿ Business and external contextual factors
¿ Key HR developments in the business environment
¿ Strategy formulation and implementation
¿ Managing employee relationships
¿ Professional and ethical HR approaches
¿ Change management
¿ Purpose of organisational development
¿ Driving improvements for organisational success
¿ Motivation for effective performance
¿ Organisational development theory
¿ Organisational design
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent and self directed study.

The class sessions will include formal lecture, student exercises, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.
